The German Center for Open Source AI (GC.OS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to building democratically governed, transparent, and accessible open source artificial intelligence for the benefit of society. GC.OS develops open source AI software and a sovereign tech stack, emphasizing community-driven innovation, collective decision-making, and technology that serves the common good.
GC.OS supports a wide range of participants - from individual contributors to organizations - by providing mentoring, education, consulting, and participation in an active open source community. It also fosters open source developers through governance structures, project support, and professional development opportunities.
GC.OS is the host organization for a number of widely used open source projects in the AI space, amongst others: sktime, feature-engine, pgmpy, pytorch-forecasting.
